Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Jobs Boom

From an article entitled “Jobs Boom” from the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority, we learn downtown Fort Lauderdale has experienced significant economic growth, adding around 3,200 jobs in the past year, a 5% increase since 2023. This growth rate is double the countywide average, making Downtown Fort Lauderdale a key economic engine in Broward County, alongside Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

“Downtown Fort Lauderdale, with a $35.7 billion annual economic impact, is taking its rightful place next to Port Everglades and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as the third economic engine that drives the success of Broward County.”

– Walter B. Duke, III, President of Walter Duke + Partners and former Mayor of Dania Beach.

The finance sector, particularly investment banking and private wealth management, has seen a 24% increase in employment, driven by companies like JP Morgan Private Bank, Synovus Bank, and BHG Financial.

The demand for high-quality office spaces with extensive amenities in downtown areas contributes to this growth. The area’s continued rise as an economic hub underscores the importance of investing in amenities and transportation infrastructure to support its development.
