Our President, Walter Duke, was recognized by the Dania Beach Lions Club at the 68th Annual Dania Lions Club “Jeans and Jewels” Gala for his contribution to the community by being bestowed with the Nicholas James Costello Dania Lions Scholarship Fund Award.
This is the first year that the award was given and is in honor of Nicholas Costello who, at 22, lost his life to spina bifida in 2013.
Commissioner Duke, then Mayor Duke, was instrumental in the formation of the first annual Quarterdeck Moonlite Classic Car and Truck Show which is now in its third year.
All proceeds from the event go directly to honor Nicholas’ life go to helping disabled children in the community with their future education.
In his acceptance of the award, Duke spoke of the importance of giving back to the community and the vital role service organizations such as the Lions Club and others play in helping those less fortunate.
