Our Kids, Our Seniors; Our Treasured Assets

Our kids and our seniors are so vital to the well-being of our community. It's important that we as a city embrace our seniors and rely on their experience and desire to play important roles in our community. The majority of our current city commission is senior citizens. I cherish the many relationships that I have made with our seniors residents during my first term as your commissioner. I have found that there are so many in our community with interesting perspectives and a desire to give back. Each year in our city, our senior citizens donate hundreds if not thousands of hours of volunteer time for the betterment of our community. It is important that we support our seniors and I am proud to have voted for funding programs that caters to the betterment of our senior activities and programs. We need to do more though and I vow to continue to protect the interests of our treasured senior citizens.

As the father of three teenagers, the youngest having special needs, I fully understand the challenges of raising children in the world today. I believe it is our role as elected officials to foster and support our youth. That is why I have taken an active role in supporting and promoting programs and activities geared toward our children. Our children are our future leaders and we need to carefully cultivate their leadership skills. I think it is vitally important to engage our local public schools and faith based organizations communicate with their leadership and support their efforts and programs. During my first term, I am so privileged to have been able to support many local school and faith based programs. Whether it be by attending career days, judging science fairs, speaking to the kids about the importance of local government, or providing a healthy breakfast to kids preparing for the FCAT, I will continue to support and promote our local children and help make Dania Beach a great place to raise families.

I live, work and play in Dania Beach and I plan to spend the rest of my life here. I humbly ask that you allow me to keep my Commitment, Experience, and Judgment working for you on the Dania Beach City Commission and cast your vote to re-elect me on November 6th, 2012.

Thank you,
Mayor Walter Duke
